What does a Digital Marketer do?

As a Digital Marketer within Marketing you are the specialist who delivers input and operational guidance for digital content across the channels used by the organisation. This includes maximising online opportunities including SEO/SEA, online marketing and digital communication such as the organisation’s website, email and content marketing, and newsletters: You are a ‘living and breathing’ digital for effective marketing communication.

Depending on the size of the operation, the Digital Marketer may be involved in many aspects of the digital marketing role or just part of it, in collaboration with others. In any case, in general the Digital Marketer is a pro-active member of the content creation team and part of the local cross-functional teams.

What roles and responsibilities can you expect as a Digital Marketer?

Your roles and responsibilities are likely to vary according to the size of the company. These are likely to include some or all of the following:

  • input for digital campaigns, creation of landing pages, writing and editing marketing and communication materials (webpages, newsletters, webinars);
  • content curation: facilitating and optimising content on digital platforms;
  • identifying new digital trends and opportunities especially for SEO/SEA;
  • adapting and implementing content and plans to maximise traffic and effective interactions;
  • training and supporting brand managers and business units to optimise the online offering in channels and content;
  • ensuring full compliance with SOPs and local/national regulations.

What education and skills do you need as a Digital Marketer?

Education requirements tend to be a degree that covers digital marketing, commerce and communication. On top of this, you will need at least two years’ experience as an online marketer (including e-commerce) in pharma marketing and knowledge of the relevant regulations. You will need to be fluent in Dutch and English. Specialist requirements for this role are extensive knowledge and experience of various systems and tools used in the digital environment, such as:

  • Drupal 8, Marketo, HTML, XML, APIs, JSon, JavaScript, Github, Python, C++;
  • Online marketing models;
  • Google Ads / Display Network – ad campaign management (Keyword Planner and Ads Editor);
  • SEO – Google Search Console, MOZ Tools;
  • Social media for business – Sprinklr, BuzzCapture;
  • Email marketing and CMS – Marketo;
  • Webinar and video platforms – Brightcove, Kulu Valley, YouTube;
  • Adobe Creative Suite, compression software, vector images, CSS;
  • Reporting tools – Google Analytics and Omniture Analytics.

What salary can you expect as a Digital Marketer?

The salary for a Digital Marketeer will depend on the type and size of organisation, your qualifications and experience, and the seniority of the role on offer. As a guide, you can expect a salary of between €58.000,- and €80.000.- in the Netherlands.
